Nintendo Wii 2012 Coming Soon
It's about time! I mean really, come on, Nintendo. By now you must know how easily we bore. It's been years (about 5 to be exact) since you came out with the initial console so it's more than safe to say that at this point you are long overdue.
The lull in production of the new Nintendo Wii would be okay if there weren't other devices (who shall remain nameless) coming up trying to steal your shine. These devices have been doing the most. It is to my understanding that they offer some cool technology where full body motion can be detected while we are still being bothered with the likes on a compact wand that must be detected by a censor. How out of date we are! (I use we loosely. Since I grew up with Nintendo I don't feel that this air of familiarity is inappropriate).
According to an article on Mashable, Nintendo, as of March, sold 86.01 million Wiis (pretty impressive). What's not so impressive is that from 2009 to 2010 sells dropped an astonishing 20% from 20.1 million units to 15.1. Yikes! With this, the net worth of the company dropped to about $825 million which is 66 percent less than in 2009.
Perhaps ...
... it's the declining sales that have finally lit a flame under Nintendo to produce another device. Regardless of what inspired to urge to create anew it was definitely time. According to experts Nintendo is said to be looking to repeat past successes in the gaming market. This time around that won't be as easy as before.
Before Nintendo entered the virtual gaming market as a frontrunner but it appears that now they will be playing catch-up with the companies that have taken a liking to Nintendo's recipe and perfected it by adding their own elements.
Nintendo has been quite mum regarding details that surround the new Wii. In a recent news conference, Nintendo CEO, Satoru Iwata stated As for the details of exactly what it will be, we have decided that it is best to let people experience it for themselves at E3. So I won't talk about specific details today, but it will offer a new way of playing games within the home.
Let's hope so, Nintendo; wouldn't want to continue to see though sells decline. I'm no day in, day out gamer but just judging by what I've seen in the world of gaming thus far I have a few predictions as to what's to come.
I see 3D Wii in our future (prepare to be freaked out by this). I see boxing games where it appears you're actually being punched in the face and tennis matches with balls flying at your head.
I also see the demise of the hand wand-there will be no more of that. From now on your body will be the controller. You jump and your Mii jumps with you.
Lastly, I see live camera's in the corner of your Wii screen that offers live chat and interacting abilities with competitors across the world (does this already exist on some platform? If it doesn't it will, trust me).
My predictions are just stabs in the dark here. It is my hope that Nintendo is cooking up something similar or equally as good. I trust them; they've never let me down before.
