A move can be legal without being easy to explain
Learning shogi involves more than remembering how each piece moves. After a move is played, the position contains new attacks, new weaknesses and sometimes new pieces in hand. A beginner can make that change easier to understand by describing one concrete purpose before moving.

Identify the piece that does the defending
Before moving a piece, name one square or piece it currently protects. Then ask whether the planned move leaves that responsibility uncovered. This simple check does not identify the best move by itself, but it gives a reason that can be tested after an opponent responds.

... change the next position. When reviewing a capture, describe both the removed defender and the piece that becomes available in hand. Check the rules for drop restrictions rather than assuming that every empty square is available.
Use a small position to investigate one rule
A full game may contain too many events to review at once. Choose a position where one interaction was confusing: a promotion changed a piece, a drop created a threat, or a defender moved away. Work through that example before trying to explain the entire result.
A tsume-shogi puzzle is useful when the question concerns a forcing line. The rules guide is more suitable when the uncertainty concerns movement, promotion or a foul. An AI game supplies a continuing sequence in which to notice these questions. Choosing the format deliberately keeps the exercise connected to the problem.
Keep the review specific
After a session, write what you expected and what actually happened in one position. Include pieces in hand and the opponent reply that changed the plan. This is a way of organizing observations, not a promise of a particular rating or winning percentage. A useful note is one that helps you recognize the same interaction later.
