"Soon after my 3rd child was born, I was asked to attend a charity fundraiser at my older child's school. With a newborn, I was hesitant to hire a babysitter. I decided not to go, and stay home with my 5 week old and my two other children.

Besides, I was exhausted with a capital E! I haven’t slept much and finding time to have a shower was like winning the lottery. The last thing I wanted to do was be social.

My husband heard about this opportunity for me to go out, and gamely said "no I want you to go, it will give me some bonding time with the kids..." So nice of him, but I hated to put that on him. He said "come on, Dayna, how hard could it be?" Um, ok...

So I got dressed and felt pretty good for not having breast milk or spit up all over me for once. No yoga pants tonight, hooray! I left the house with some hesitation but a smiling husband who wished me a nice evening.

During the silent auction, the phone calls started. "Honey, I'm sorry, I can't find the baby wipes". "Honey, she seems warm, should I bring her to the ER?" "Honey, she won't drink from a bottle and I don't know what to do, and ...
... by the way, she won't stop crying. But don't leave I can handle it". I think after the 5th call and hearing sheer panic in his voice I left the event. I had been gone 2 hours :)

I came home to find what looked like a home invasion had occurred. Everything strewn about. I quietly walked into the living room to find my husband passed out on the sofa holding our 5 week old, and my two older kids trying to help clean up the mess in the kitchen. I said "what happened"'. They said "daddy didn't know what to do".

The next morning my husband was getting ready for work. Dressed up looking handsome in his suit and tie. As he was leaving for work, he kissed me and our baby (who had by now covered me in spit up), and said "honey, if last night is any indication of how your days go, I just want to say I feel lucky to be going to my office". I smiled and said "and this is why men don't have babies". We both laughed, and went on with our jobs for the day.
