Forbes recently named Salt Lake City as the third best city for jobseekers in 2013. Despite the continuous economic growth and local workers' remarkable work ethic and commitment, a strong sense of work-life balance persists among local residents. Most SLC locals thus value quality time with their families, and often make it a point to have those cherished moments immortalized through beautiful pictures.

However, family pictures rarely come out perfect. If you want the kind of family photography in Salt Lake City you wouldn't be ashamed to display in your living room, you might want to head to a professional photography studio. Likewise, keep these tips in mind.

Wear stylish yet comfortable clothing.

Some family portraits look so stiff and formal they wouldn't look out of place at a haunted house. While you naturally want each family member to look presentable in front of the camera, young kids might not feel comfy in formal outfits and may thus end up looking sullen. As such, let your kids wear comfortable clothes.

Be creative.

Family ...
... photos don't always have to follow formulaic poses, i.e. with the parents sitting down and the kids standing up behind them. Talented photographers in Salt Lake City can shoot you in a variety of poses, especially non-static ones. Bring props like an heirloom leather football or a favorite stuffed toy to give your photos a more personal touch.

Make your family laugh.

One can easily tell the difference between a genuine smile and a phony one, as the best smiles often emerge when people just let go of their inhibitions. This is hard to achieve, however, when a camera is right in front of one's face. However, if your timing is right, you can crack a joke and have your family laugh themselves into stitches just before the shutter clicks so you'll look like you're all genuinely having a good time.

Family photos may be quintessential in almost every American household, but who says you can't break out of tradition and stylize your family portrait the way you want to? Be creative and enjoy yourselves at the photo shoot so you can have a standout photograph that subsequent generations will surely treasure.
