Life Saver Tips For The Amateur Photographer – Shooting Wedding Photographs In Low Light
Shooting in low light conditions is n intense challenge. Most photographic equipments are unable to get vivid images when the light is less than optimal. One problem of shooting in dim condition is grainy images, the other is blurring of objects in motion. Enabling the on-board flash kills the charm in images. It reduces the depth and imparts flatness to the image and distorts the colour in it. This can be solved to some extent with the application of artificial lights placed at angles to the subject, but a photographer cannot carry around bulky lighting equipments on outdoor shots as in the case of wedding photography.
But we are talking about Brisbane wedding photography here; everybody wants a shot or two of the outdoors. It is common for couples to request an early morning or evening shot when natural light is at its colourful best. Incidentally, this is also the time that is very low in natural light and the photographer faces his biggest fear of shooting grainy images! Professionals know how to make best of fading light, it is the amateur that needs to learn a thing ...
... or two about the tricks.
Positioning For Optimum Illumination
With movable subjects, you can arrange things around a little. You cannot move the sun! But you can definitely ask the couple to stand in a fashion that lets the light cascade over them any way you want. Look for higher grounds where sunlight lingers on slightly longer than on plains. Hills are fantastic places for instance; here you will have a few extra minutes of sunlight and no obstruction around to prevent light from falling on subjects. To be on the safe side, start early and reach the location a few minutes early and plan out how you will arrange subjects in your frame. Shoot as many images as you can and make the most of the low light.
Tweak Camera Settings
Your DSLR is capable of doing amazing things at the software level. In fact, the software works in tandem with the hardware and changes a few things around to prepare the camera for shooting in low lighting conditions. Raise the ISO sensitivity and activate hand shake reduction. Most upscale devices recognize even the slightest change in ambient light and adjust settings without you having to press any button. Assuming that you have one of these, you might have to worry your head at all. Check out if your camera can do these cool automatic adjustments, if not, you will have to prepare it for the big day ahead.
Wedding Photography is War and A Little Cheating Won’t Do Any Harm
Brisbane is a wonderful place endowed with nature best charms. The weather is pleasant for most of the year and the people are amicable. All these make Brisbane a place of choice for many couples who throng the city to tie the knot. Wedding photographers operating out of Brisbane are often pestered with the demand for romantic low light (dusk/dawn) photo sessions! Since this has become so common here in Brisbane, wedding and portrait photographers have found a novel way to cheat the fading light. They carry lighting equipments with them which they use whenever the light seems too low for photography.
Though an ardent photographer would consider this cheating, but at the end of the day – all is well if things end well, and a good photograph in low light does not necessarily have to be really low in light, you can use artificial lights if you can carry them and you do not mess the pretty colours of sun down!
