Battle Axes: A Tool And A Weapon
Axe is nothing but a tool or a bludgeon which has a very weighty blade built up across the handle. Most of the time, the grip of the axe is finished up of wood for the ease of use. The axe is used specifically to cut trees and shape the wood. More specifically, in the past, the axe was utilized as a weapon of survival particularly during the Neolithic age. It was used by man to ward off in opposition to enemies. For fairly some time later on, the axe was used in battles by the soldiers too.
Axes were very commonly used in previous times during wars. They used to be the best weapons of the fighting soldiers. That’s why they are termed as battle axes because they were used during big battles to win and save the people. These axes are of different shapes and sizes and many of them come with specific detailing and fine crafts. The axes can be heavy or light depending upon their utility. Moreover, many of the axes can be used by a single hand as they are quite light weight as compared to those axes which required to be operated by two hands as they are large and heavy. But this is also a fact that most of the battle axes ...
... are light weight as they were specifically used to cut the legs or arms as compared to the axes of today’s time as they are required to cut big trees and other wood related items.
Battle axes are definitely a very specialized version of the utility axe and cover almost all its tasks. Swords are also a kind of weapon, which is quite useful in ancient as well as modern times. But the axes are very economical as compared to the swords and are easily accessible too. The axes had become such an important part of wars that soldiers used to carry them along with them all through the time.
Some of the axes used to have a double head while others had a spike or a point attached to it. So it is concluded that different kinds of axes were used during the battles in the ancient times. These were not only helpful to the soldiers to win the battle, but were also helpful in making them feel safe and secure otherwise. This is the reason that kings also used to get them trained in these weapons’s working and always carry with them these weapons to stay protected.
These axes played major roles in winning the wars and making the enemy fall on feet or run away. But after some time of use of axes as weapons, they were replaced by a much sophisticated and more useful sword. But one thing is very clear that axes serve two way purposes. They can be used as weapon to fight the war and as tool for doing any kind of work. So that makes them the preferred instruments during ancient times.
