Music is an essential part of history.

The roaring 20's. The age of Jazz. Jazz was very popular in the 20's, along with a great Jazz artist named Louis Satchemo Armstrong, he had a very raspy voice, and he played the trumpet and cornet. Edward Kennedy Ellington also known as Duke Ellington was another big jazz composer who played the piano. Number 1 hit of the 1920's was swanee by Al Jolson.

1930's the big band era. Number 1 hit of the 30's brother can you spare a dime by Jay Gorney. One of the main instruments in music of the 30's was the piano. Three of the popular players of the 30's were Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Bing Crosby. Bing Crosby started with a band called the Rhythm boys, and in the 30's they played on stage with Duke Ellington, soon after that Bing Crosby left the band and started his solo career.

The big band era of the 40's. This was the era where rhythm and blues were popular and the door for rock and roll begins. The 40's were also the era were many new artists made their breakthrough and started their career. Dizzy Gillespie became a famous band leader. Frank Sinatra, ...
... Perry Como and Dean Martin became well known and opened the door for future artists to see that lyrics should have significance. This was also the era of scat singing which consisted of nonsense but rhythmical syllables that were strung together to fit to the music.

50's beginning of rock n' roll. Rock n' Roll was developed from a blend of Gospel and Southern blues music and a strong back beat. This music became very popular very fast, especially by with the teenagers. The popular artists in that era were, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis along with many others. But there was more than rock and roll there was Nat king Cole, Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, And Perry Como, called the Crooners, who were idolized of the rockers that started rock n' roll. Elvis Presley, who holds the title of The King of Rock N' Roll, was first noticed in 1953 when he stopped into a recording studio to record two songs for his mother for her birthday. Later in 1953 he went back to the same recording studio recorded 2 more songs and they paid him $4. The songs were played to the owner and in 1954 Sam Phillips put Elvis to work and rock and roll history began. Another part of the 50's was in Memphis with Country Music and Johnny Cash. In the 50's all these artists and others were dubbed the rockabilly's. A very important source of the beginnings of rock n' roll in the 50's began with a man named Les Paul he was a wiz in the recording studios and good guitar player. He designed the Les Paul electric guitar and designed overdubbing which allows one person to play more than one part on a recording. Les Paul and his wife Mary Ford who sang vocal parts created together a series of two - person recording that sounded like an entire band was playing all with music that was guitar based.

So as you can see from the 20's to the 50's with the 50's being a very important part of rock n' roll music, history was made by singers and musicians who's music is still in play today and appreciated by many.

Have A Blessed Day!
