Canada stands at a political crossroads as Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland's minority Liberal government faces a make-or-break confidence vote on the federal budget this Monday. With the government holding only 169 seats against a combined opposition tally of 173, the survival of the administration hinges on winning support from at least two opposition MPs or securing abstentions from four others.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer has confirmed the budget’s fiscal sustainability, projecting a $78.3 billion deficit for 2025-2026, decreasing over the coming years. Yet political tensions remain rife, with the Bloc Québécois pledging opposition and the NDP caucus undecided. Conservatives criticize the budget as fiscally irresponsible, dubbing it the "Carney credit card budget."

Failure to pass the budget would force Canada into its third federal election in just 18 months, potentially disrupting economic recovery and governance stability during an already challenging period.
