Half Life 2 is the sequel version of Half Life. It is a science fiction first person shooter game based on half life. Like many other games, it has also been developed on the Source Game Engine. It has won over 35 Game of the Year awards in 2004, the year of its release. Half Life 2 was released in November of 2004 in various parts of the world. It was released on 16 November, 2004 in North America, and Internationally; 25 November, 2004 in European Union and on 21 December, 2004 in Australia. It was originally released for windows based PCs only; though later on it was ported to various other platforms including Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and other platforms.

Half Life 2 was developed by Valve Software Corporation. One incident that affected the Half Life 2 most is the leakage of the source code over the Internet. Development of the game took almost five years to complete and during that development phase the code was released.

Half Life 2 has a game play very much similar to original Half Life. In this game, player advances through stream of levels, similar to that in the original game. Players are also provided with on-screen instructions in this game.

Over 4 million copies of Half Life 2 have been reported to be sold as of 8 June, 2006. This figure does not show the quantity of copies sold on Steam Website and in retail. However, the game together with Counter Strike and Day of Defeat tot up for over 20 million copies.
