Leftists Attack Radio Station Towers In Washington

Leftist activists from the Earth Liberation Front staged a nighttime attack on radio station towers belonging to KRKO 1380 AM in Everett Washingon. KRKO was only able to continue transmitting because they had the foresight to have invested in a backup transmission site.

KRKO is a small family-owned radio station whose mission statement is anathema to the radical left of downtown Seattle:

“To serve the businesses and residents of Everett, it’s neighboring communities, and the northern Puget Sound region. Most of our staff was born here, and the northern Puget Sound is our home. NorthSound 1380 is a sports-based radio station, but that shouldn’t stop us from getting involved in as many community issues as we can. Everett is not a bedroom community of Seattle. It’s our intent to move the center of economic and social gravity away from Seattle over time, and to take a leadership role in issues that will enable Everett and its surrounding communities to further develop their independent identities.”

... “Diversity Czar” at the FCC has already floated plans to put conservative radio stations out of business by setting federal taxes on all FCC licenses based upon the “diversity” of their political content. Lloyd has written openly about his feelings that freedom of speech is a “distraction” from more important communications policies:

“It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. . . . This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. . . . At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.” †Czar Lloyd

Lloyd has publicly praised Hugo Chavez’s murderous regime in Venezula, which has demolished freedom of speech in that country by taking more than 200 opposition radio stations off the air.

Cass Sunstein, Obama’s Regulatory Affairs Czar, is a bird of the same feather. He has written in support of government review of all blog content †including comments †and prosecution for libel against all blog owners for posts with which the government does not agree.

These assaults on our cherished First Amendment started before Obama had even been elected. In September of 2008, Obama’s general counsel Robert F. Bauer sent a letter to radio stations airing an ad critical of Obama threatening them with revocation of their FCC licenses unless they stopped airing the advertisement.

The Earth Liberation Front has taken more direct action against free speech, but they are by far the least dangerous threats to free speech in America.
