What is RFID tag?

Radio frequency identification, popularly known as RFID tags is gift of a technology for tracking things or objects. Not only, objects but RFID tags also use for tracking animals and people. RFID is a small chip that

has encoded data known as tags which, is useful for tracking objects. These tagged chip response to certain radio frequency and transmit the encoded data into their circuitry. This process helps user to gather

information about tagged object. This can be detailed information or short as encoded piece. Furthermore, on a right frequency the user can get data directly from encoded RFID chip or database. To get information

from database cross identification is done by user.

Uses of RFID tags

RFID tags are used in numbers of applications. Especially in malls and retail stores goods are tagged with RFID. Tagging goods with RFID helps in tracking goods in shopping malls, where many people shop together

and it is really difficult to keep eyes on things. Furthermore, there are chances that goods got exchanged or stole. RFID tags beeps if it gets out ...
... of the shop without payment of it. After payment the counter removed

the tag and it can be taken out. RFID tags are also used for tracing animals for research purpose. There are three types of RFID tags, active, passive and semi-passive. Let’s understand about it.

Passive RFID tag

Passive RFID tag has a small chip with an antenna. When this antenna comes under proper frequency of other device it responds. The radio provides chip a power to response with encoded information. There is no requirement of a battery or electricity to work for this passive RFID tags. However, it can broadcast from short distance only and can be read only by scanners. The cost of production is lower for such passive rfid tag and that is the reason it is consumed more in compare with other types of RFID tags. It is mostly applicable for retail industry as here these tags come in closeness with scanners.

Active RFID Tag

Another type of RFID tag is an active RFID tag. Active rfid tag is as small as passive rfid tag but unlike passive chip it has battery. This battery helps in broadcasting information continuously and there is no need of

scanner. Active rfid tag generally use for security purpose or objects that need constant monitoring. Active RFID tag is use when an owner needs to monitor the object or its position. It helps a lot in stopping theft. Scientists also use it for tracking animals during research projects. It is quite expensive and there is less consumption of active RFID tag in the market.

Semi-passive RFID tag

And then there is called semi-passive RFID tag which, provides you benefits of active as well as passive tag. Like active RFID tag it has a battery but this battery provides power only when there is a proper frequency. This way it also saves energy of battery. Such types of RFID tags are less expensive and give you benefits of active as well as passive tags.RFID tag has solved tracking problem of many industries and provide comprehensive solution for tracking goods, people or animal.
