Choosing, purchasing and installing a new group of window treatments can be a substantial investment of your time and cash. Now you've made which leap, so it's time to think about maintaining the beauty and functionality of the new blinds, window shutters or awnings for some time to come.

General Treatment

Be sure to dust your own beautiful blinds regularly. Nothing destroys colour and damages systems more than plain old dust. No matter what kind of window blinds you have, they can all be dusted. Use a high quality gentle duster - never plastic - or even dust your blinds using compressed atmosphere. Once every week or even two, use the clean attachment on your vacuum cleaner to achieve a more thorough cleaning.

With mild solutions and a small extra care, you can place clean fabric window blinds. Use only tepid water and the mildest detergent you can find. Make sure to test your detergent solution in a hidden spot to make sure it's not going to damage the fabric, and never use rubbing motion or too much stress when spot cleansing. Instead, gently mark the detergent answer onto the fabric having a cloth towel ...
... or sponge. Rinse with clean lukewarm drinking water, and blot frequently until you've assimilated as much moisture as possible.

Special Treatment

Wood blinds, or timber blinds, require a little special care. Water may cause the wood to warp or discolor, so avoid using water for regular cleaning. Stick to the duster or vacuum with regard to everyday jobs. If you do find a stain that you simply can't remove through dusting, try using a moist cloth. Just dry the area completely when you're finished eliminating the stain. Remember to oil timber window blinds every few years to keep them working smoothly.

With regard to honeycomb blinds, there are more do nots than do's. Clean each pleat carefully with your vacuum cleaner cleaner's brush attachment. Avoid using fabric cleaners on your new honeycomb blinds! They are able to cause discoloring and diminishing. Never rub honeycomb shades while cleaning, as it will damage the material. For stained material, use the gentle spot cleaning method outlined above.

Aluminum or even vinyl venetian blinds are especially easy to clean and take care of. When regular dusting isn't enough, water and mild soap solution are your close friends. You can immerse aluminum or PVC shutters in a mixture of lukewarm water and household detergent and allow these to soak for a few moments - in the bath tub is just fine. You are able to dry each panel yourself, or stretch the blinds out carefully in the front yard and let the sunlight do the work.

Outside awnings also deserve special mention. Take them indoors or close them up when the weather gets rough. Before storing fabric awnings, even for a short time, dry them completely and completely, because leftover moisture may cause them to mildew and stain. Use a gentle brush or a chilly damp sponge in order to wipe away dust and bird droppings, then rinse well with a garden hose.

By following these simple guidelines, you'll extend the life of your beautiful new window treatments. And if you have questions or concerns or would like to find-out more about blinds visit Faxwood Blinds
