The Sony Tap 20 or AIO comes across as an amazing product at the first glance itself. It is capable of multi touch gesture screen (10 point enabled) and an inbuilt battery. But the most eye catching is its ability to open flat. For, example you are working on a presentation and want to take a break, just lay it flat on a table and play a touch sensitive game like angry birds. This means that when you want to use it like a laptop attach it to a keyboard or you can simply lay it flat and use it like a tab. This is not enough about it, there is a lot more, so let us find out what this tab is capable of.

Under the hood

Sony has powered its tablet with 1.7GHz Ivy Bridge (ultra-low-voltage) Core i5-3317U CPU. This is a CPU that is used by majority of good Ultrabooks. It also has a capability of Turbo Boost that enables it to kick up to 2.6GHz. The screen display is capacitated by HD 4000 graphics (Intel) and the memory of 4GB. Other things like 1600x1400 resolution of the screen that may disappoint a few, as it is not in accordance to the 20-inch screen. Still Sony makes up for it by providing IPS panel that enables in bringing out the colors and video quality just fine, you will have the advantage of viewing it just good enough in different viewing angles. Also, WMV HD content is clearly visible including images; it is all because of IPS panel inclusion.

The connectivity options include 4.0 Bluetooth, Ethernet connect and a Wi-Fi connectivity of 802.11n. Nonetheless, you will have to do with two USB ports (3.0); one is useful for charging another for SD memory option along with audio input/output jack. These are all when it comes to ports so do not go on looking for HDMI ports as they are not included in it.

Interestingly you will be surprised to find the wireless mouse and keyboard on un-boxing this product. The keyboard seems more like chiklet shape, with this you need time adjusting to and mastering perfect keystrokes. It comes with a stand that is U shaped, you can make adjustments accordingly for viewing angles, and it can also go parallel if you want to place the device parallel. The battery (5000mAh) backup of this device will last up to 3 hours without having to charge it, other things that affect the battery including brightness and other settings.

Performance

Due to the ultra-low-voltage, CPU the capacity and performance are marred. It seems that when compared to Windows 7 the performance of Tab 20 seemed to be below what was expected. You can comfortably perform activities like gaming, video editing but do not over indulge in it as it is not exactly made for these activities. If you are indulging in typing and working with text then you might like to consider another keyboard. You will find it difficult to adjust to the given option, as the keys are textured and uncomfortable.

Other things like using this tab as a gaming device is only good with games like Pinball FX2 and Xbox Taptile or something similar to it. Just lay it down flat and enjoy playing. Additionally the sound quality is good if you have propped the device on a hard surface without any covering, for example try playing music while the device is propped on a table top that has a table cover, the cover will most likely muffle the audio.

Verdict

Even though there are drawbacks but the Windows 8 integration is seamless. You may want to consider this tab for its amazing ability to be able to double up as a laptop and as a gaming console all at the same time. Its huge size is something to go for including the immaculate display.
