A World Defined By Mobile Apps

The user community has embraced smartphones more than 10 times faster than they did the personal computer in the 80s. These little shiny objects have become an integral part of our lives and we depend on them for too many things to count. From the moment we wake up till the time we go to bed, and sometimes even after that, we are continuously engaged with them. However, the devices are but a vehicle. The actual smart device experience is created by the hundreds of apps that reside on them. It would not ne an exaggeration to say that the little pieces of mobile code have changed the personal and professional lives of the smart device owners radically. The very way we approach our lives has been altered. Let us look at a day in the life of an average smartphone user.
"The first thing I do in the morning is check the weather using the widget that I have on the home screen. Next comes checking my email using the email application that so faithfully keeps me connected to my clients. Next comes the calendar interface, which tells me what my day looks like, and where I need to be at what time. All this before I am out ...
... of the bed. "
"My first cup of coffee is typically made entertaining by going through the updates from my friends on Facebook. Linked is browsed too, but is generally not so much a source of entertainment as its purely social counterpart. However, if I have a meeting and I do not recognize the names of the people on the invite, I make it a point to check their roles and work history, maybe even to find some topics for conversation. While I attend to the nature’s call, I have my trusted news feed reader Pulse inform me about the happenings around the world, and in the world of technology and the condition of the economy. "
"My daily jog and workout are complemented by the music from my favorite artists on the Jukebox application I have installed. Post my workout and the shower (the one place I NEVER take my precious little companion), I look up the traffic information on Google Now, which tells me exactly how long it will take for me to get to work or my first meeting. I then get dressed and use the navigation program to get to the location of my meeting. My meetings are all recorded using my Dictaphone program on my phone, so that I may hear them later, and take notes, all of which are managed in Evernote, and synced to all my devices. I can also send a link to them to my team. Dropbox is extensively used by my team and myself to share files and work-in-progress documents. "
"Other transactions I use my smartphone are – making to-do and shopping lists (I can never remember all the items on the grocery list, and that made my wife so mad), mobile banking, including check deposits through image capture, shopping, playing games (of course, its not just about work), watching my favorite movies on Netflix, chatting with my daughter on Skype when traveling, reading through Barnes and Noble Nook, and Kindle apps etc. Even when I go to sleep, I use the sleep sounds app, to drift away."
It is easy to see that an average user is constantly interacting with application interfaces from professional to personal tasks. This is a great opportunity for enterprises to get their brand introduced in the lives of their potential customers.
