Some Things To Think About When Hiring A Company To Build Your Home

Looking for a home builder? No matter how bad the economy is right now you will find a large number of people making this choice so don't feel alone.

Saving money is one of the main reason a lot of people are making this choice. They are also doing it because they will get the house built they want to their specifications! Look at it this way,

“Why would you settle for a house that you will potentially be making a life at for the next 15-20 years?”

Point #1 – Talk To Buyers

You will want to take the time to go and find current customers of the home-builder you have in mind. Now where people go wrong with this advice is that they go into another community thinking that if the home-builder created quality homes there then of course it will be the same for where they want to live. This is simply not true. You will want to talk to current customers of the home-builder in the same community you are planning on living in.

Q1) Find out from them how their home is doing?

Q2) What issues if any have they had?

Q3) How hard was it to get the builder to resolve issues when they arose?

Point #2 – Check The Warranty Details

This is where you will have to do a little work but it’s your home and money right? We want you to compare the warranty programs from all of the potential home-builders you might use. This doesn’t have to be a long drawn out process either. We are basically looking for three things:

1) What’s Covered In The Warranty.

2) What’s Not Covered In The Warranty.

3) How Long Contractually Do They Have To Fix Or Resolve Issues.

Strategy #3 – Find Out What Materials Were Used

This is what some people attempt to accomplish but fall far short of actually doing. When we ask you to compare building materials we are referring to more then if this builder uses Viking appliances versus GE appliances. This is where you will want to get down to the nitty gritty and find out t hings like joist types, siding material, brick manufacturers and etc. This is where you will be surprised to find out that some builders still use wood siding in this day and age. They do it because it’s cheaper then using some of the more technologically advanced materials they have access to. Nick Favia says, “Do your homework people!!!”
