There are probably as many kinds of vocal courses in UK as there are singing schools and teachers. The challenge is to find which one is the best one for you. Your reason for learning how to sing will define which is the most appropriate course for you. If you are a beginner without any previous formal training in singing or music, then you should consider taking classes which focus on teaching you the basics. That does not mean that the course should condemn you to repeating the same scales all the time. Check to see whether your teacher is showing you how add breath support or control the muscles in your throat while you practice your notes.
Some teachers insist on practicing the lower notes repeatedly and design their course around that. These are the ones who think that if you can growl, you are ready to become a pop or rock singer. Yet there are so many other areas which training in vocal singing in UK should cover. You need to develop a strong sense of how variations in rhythm and tempo can change how a song will sound. How you ...
... enunciate certain syllables while singing can affect the rhythm and how it will actually sound to the listener. Therefore you need to be cautious about how you take consonant combinations like ‘ng', especially when carrying higher notes.
The course design should allow you to learn things as you progress rather than jumping from topic to topic which leaves you dazed and confused. The levels of difficulty should be commensurate with how you advance to senior levels. If you are studying for a graduate level or some similar degree, the course should include issues like how to write and record songs. You should have progressed from warm up and warm down exercises, articulation, dynamics and pitching, crescendo and diminuendo to major scale construction; triads and harmony; major pentatonic scales; time signatures; basic rhythm notation; vocal harmonies and double tracking by the time you are near completion of your course.
