Construction Sees Further Regulation

All sorts of things can happen on construction sites. Just think about how many precautions construction workers have to take – hard hats, high-vis jackets, protective clothing, warning tape and signs everywhere – and you start to get a pretty good idea of just how dangerous the trade is. As such, safety is paramount. Regulations and regulators have to evolve to meet new or existing threats.

It is for this reason that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will start doing mystery spot-checks in construction sites, initially in Doncaster and Rotherham, to check on construction sites. Their focuses will be ensuring smooth running and organisation, the correct use of safety equipment, and the well-being of employees.

The ultimate aim is to reduce not only death and serious injury, but also the more insidious poor health and smaller but still significant injuries that can be induced by working in unsafe or sub-standard environments. With any luck, the HSE will be able to meet these aims and make good inroads into improving the quality of life of all construction workers in the UK.
