The smartphone is perhaps the most innovative software tool in the world of technology. The introduction of smartphones has changed not only the way we conduct work but also the pattern of our personal lives. This mobile device has revolutionized communication and multifunctional benefits are still being realized by enterprises and individuals. But is all that a smartphone has to offer a promise? No, say mobile market researchers, who are of the opinion that like every form of technology, the smartphone too has its own share of pitfalls.

Here we discuss how the advantages of smartphones have changed our lives for the better, but at the same time their omnipresence has led to notable hazards:

1. Smartphone as a Communication Tool – These mobile devices have made it easier for enterprise management to keep in touch with not only junior employees but also clients and target audience. The communication does not end in voice calling only; the support for instant messaging that smartphones provide has made it the most famous tool communicating tool. Moreover, smartphone services often integrate with social networking ...
... sites like Twitter and Facebook to foster better communication between different departments of an enterprise and prepare the workforce to be actively involved in different company events. The downside to smartphones and their communicating capability is that they keep the workforce tied to their work. Since professional smartphones run very work specific apps, it means that an employee will have to remain connected to the office or clients all the time. This eventually leads to low morale, strong disinterest in the work, and thus less productivity.

2. Smartphone as a Productivity Tool – Apps installed or downloaded to a smartphone can be effectively used for increasing the productivity rates of businesses worldwide. The comprehensive contact lists, maps app, and calendars are few examples that assist an enterprise to manage work and thus raise productivity levels. These apps can also be synced with information stored in desktop devices used in the enterprise. Since the apps downloaded to a particular smartphone are usually those which will enable completing work that is specific to a particular business unit and can also be accessed while the employee is travelling, the possibility of increased productivity rises. The downside to apps found in these mobile devices is that they are a source of distraction to the user. It is true that none of us can remain completely unaffected by the gaming, social networking, music, or video apps loaded in a smartphone. While the user is browsing through these apps, another mobile application related to work and the notifications therein may go unnoticed and therefore it may lead to the poor performance of the employee using the app or even low levels of enterprise productivity.

3. Smartphone as a Flexible Tool – With the rapid change and improvement in technology, software developers are introducing new features in smartphones every year. The flexibility of these mobile devices allows engineers to add to its functionality through frequent updates. This constant innovation has however affected the user satisfaction of people with inadequate knowledge of technology.

The above discussion points out that smrtphones provide us with not only benefits, but also hazards. But it will not be wrong to say that whether the smartphone has more pros or cons depends entirely on the understanding and usage patterns of the mobile customers.
