Sim-ply The Cheapest International Calls Around!
Can you imagine saving as much as, perhaps more than, 80% on your International Calls? Well, you don’t have to imagine any
longer. To achieve such savings, all you have to do is buy a SIM card. ‘SIM’ stands for ‘Subscriber Identity Module,’ and it
is a kind of circuit board which you fit inside your mobile phone. That all may sound complicated, but a SIM device is
actually quite easy to use.
A SIM card greatly lowers the cost of the calls you make in other nations by letting you use their local networks, and not
your network back home. When you purchase a SIM card, you can pay for minutes as you go, or you can save money and purchase a
set number of minutes/data for a set length of time (a year, let’s say). Even when you prepay, your carrier will probably
allow you to buy extra minutes should you need them. However, if you don’t use all the SIM minutes you bought during the
designated period of time, you’ll probably lose those minutes. Most likely they won’t carry over, and you won’t be reimbursed
for them, either. Be aware, too, that ...
... you won’t be able to use your normal phone number when you’re using a SIM card.
You have the option to buy one SIM card for your international usage, or to buy a separate SIM card each time you arrive in a
new nation. The only problem with the single-card option is that your card might not work everyplace you go. As for the
latter option, it gives you the benefit of always having a local number at which locals can reach you. If you’re traveling
for business, therefore, your colleagues can call you at that local number – they won’t have to worry about dialing
long-distance.
In order to use a SIM card internationally, you’ll need a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) mobile phone, as
opposed to a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) phone. Please note that while your phone might have GSM capabilities, those
GSM functions could be locked. In that case, you’ll want to find an expert who can unlock your phone for you.
Now, let’s alleviate some concerns you might have about SIM calls. First, you don’t have to worry about the sound; SIM calls
are just as clear as any other mobile calls. Your testing shouldn’t be interrupted, either; with a SIM card, you should be
able to text as you normally do, although there may be a few spots where testing is unavailable. And if you occasionally like
to make land-line calls when you’re on the road, know that sometimes you can receive a land-line telephone number, for free,
when you purchase a SIM card.
