Attaining Work-life Balance

Many women scoff at the idea of Work-Life Balance (WLB) referring it as the Utopian concept that cannot be achieved in real life.
Work-life balance does NOT mean an equal balance rather it comprises of two everyday concepts; “Achievement and Enjoyment,” We play numerous roles in our lives that
could be grouped under Work, Family, Friends and Self.
Daily Achievement and Enjoyment in these areas is what Work-Life Balance is all about.
How do you recognise imbalance?
You are merely trying to get through the day.
You feel that you want to get off from the merry-go-round of life.
You feel like you are unable to catch up in the game of life.
WLB comprises of 4 stages:
• Self-assessment Stage
• Exploration Stage
• Implementation Stage
• Evaluation Stage
Self-assessment stage: Here, you answer the question: “Who am I?” Reflect on your skills, values, interests and priorities. Write down your thoughts share with someone
you trust.

The Wheel of Life
Use the Wheel of Life to assess how much time you are investing in different dimensions of your life. Rank yourself from 1 to 10 in following areas and work towards
the one you want to excel:
• Work
• Money
• Learning
• Spiritual Fulfilment
• Love
• Physical Well Being and Health
• Relationships
• Fun and enjoyment
• Helping others
Implementation Stage: Here, set some specific, action-oriented, and time-sensitive goals and make a strategic action plan to achieve them.
Evaluation Stage: Evaluate your performance in the earlier stages and be well on your way to achieve WLB!
Here are some quick tips that will help you on the way to WLB…
• Visualise your ideal life and write down the top ten things you want to accomplish
• Set your personal vision and mission statement, it will help you see where you are heading.
• Turn off the television and limit internet time so that technology does not rule your life.
• Pursue your passion and stay focused on what is important to you.
• Every weekend indulge in one fun activity.
• Make a daily exercise schedule for 30 minutes
• When confronted with a choice, ask yourself: Will this add to my life or create more stress?
• Let go of negative people and things that are holding you back.
• Live simply, expect less and give more.
Be confident…LIVE life
Lose the guilt.
Divide the workload.
Be in the moment at work or with family.
Find a good child care situation.
Schedule in down time with your partner.
Finally tell yourself
