We Americans Have Failed Our Military
A poll of active duty military personnel conducted shortly before the election my Military Times (http://www.militarytimes.com/news/2008/10/military_poll_100508w/) shows that the men and women in our nations armed services supported John McCain over Barack Obama 68% to 23%.
These are the the troops who are sleeping in the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. These are the men and women who are being shot at by Islamist extremists. These are the people who are being killed by improvised explosive devices (IED's) and smuggled Iranian military equipment. These are our sons and daughters; these are the mothers and fathers of our grandchildren. These are the people who know first-hand the dangers of Islamist extremism.
And yet we at home, the comfortable civilians sitting on our couches watching our satellite television with our remote controls failed to support our troops in this general election.
The American people allowed the media to scare us into voting for Barack Obama because of concerns for the economy. We allowed short-term concerns for our economic well-being to override concern for our sons and daughters ...
... living and working in combat zones.
What is worse is that our decision doesn't even make sense. Socialism destroyed the economies of Cuba and Eastern Europe. It is now destroying the economies of Venezuela and Argentina. We allowed ourselves to be cowed into voting for a plan that doesn't have the slightest chance of working.
We have elected a man who has expressed disdain for ordinary Americans who "cling to God and guns", who has no respect for our nations military, who has refused to pay respect to our nations flag, and who has written about his hatred for white people.
Barack Obama campaigned on a platform of negotiated surrender to our nations enemies. We, the American people, elected him on that platform. In doing this, we have betrayed the hard work and sacrifice of our sons and daughters.
We must now pay the price of our lack of national honor. This price will be paid not only in the inevitable economic decline that results from socialist government policies, but also in the blood of future generations who will be forced to take up the defense of a nation which we have so miserably failed.
