What Next For Digital Scales

When digital scales first appeared on the scene many years ago they brought about a revolution. Across the world and across applications digital scales proved to be superior to the mechanical scales that they replaced in terms of ease of use and maintenance besides the basic features of high accuracy and reliability.
Thereafter for a while the innovations persisted though they were more about refining the strain gauge based load cells technology than about a revolutionary new technology itself. The big leap of going digital meant like other products such as audio players and televisions the weighing scale could go "intelligent" and do a host of computation related work to bring about great new features. Therefore you have products such as a counting scale and nutritional scale hitting the market and also the fact that the weighing scale readings did not need to be noted any more and could be directly fed into the organizations information management system. But as I said not much more of a development on the strain gauge based technology itself. True the strain gauges got be more accurate and reliable but the technology ...
... remained the same.
Ultimately though just as the strain gauge technology replaced the mechanical weighing technology that preceded it the current strain gauge technology will also be replaced. Already on the horizon there are exciting new technologies that are emerging.
Take for example a new material that is able to help calculate the stress on a specific point of the material. A strain gauge on the other hand helps calculate the stress over an area. This is because the strain gauge is a simple wire spread over an area that gets stretched when stressed and its resistance changes. With the new technology even point loads can be measured at the point itself. This opens up new possibilities of how accurate and versatile weighing equipment can be.
For the buyer things can be expected to get better on the cost of he various digital scales as well. This because today new technology development has a lot of focus on keeping costs in check so that high volumes can be achieved. You can learn more at http://denisson01.insanejournal.com/399.html.
