A very common ice breaker question asked at leadership camps and at a general get together is, "If you could live in any time period, what time period would you live in?" This question always reveals great insight on the people who answer it. Most men choose the medieval time period, so they can be knighted, save the princess, and become king over a great country. Others choose the time period around the discovery of America, so they could save the Indians from the now called Americans. I always chose the 21st century, because if I grew up in the past, I would be blind. I require the use of glasses; I'm basically blind without them. Living in Missiouri (more specifically St. Louis) there is an abundance of eyeglasses in St. Louis, and I can forever have sight. Many people take having clear vision for granted. There many people who are either blind or almost blind that would do almost anything to be able to see the house that they live in, the landscape around them, or the people that they love. Something impressive about eye doctors and the field of optometry in general is the fact that it is constantly changing for the better. The technology and information that eye doctors have at their disposal is beyond vast. What is great about this technology is that it isn't hiding, but is being used out in public. I live in St. Louis, and if did a simple search online of the nearest eye doctor, I would discover that here are over nine eyeglasses places just around my city alone. The public has access to great technology and eyesight is getting better across the nation.
