Google has official taken over Motorola Mobility which has created serious thought-provoking reflections for Samsung. Samsung, the big giant of the smartphone industry, has long since been leveraging Google's popular mobile OS – Android. Now that Google itself has entered the smartphone industry, there have been speculations over Samsung developing its own mobile operating system. Can this be a reality?
Samsung has firmly established its position in the smartphone world with Android and its Galaxy S III smartphone too is powered by Google's Android. It is the most popular and widely selling operating system across the globe and it has received much recognition due to its rich features and innovative set of mobile applications.
Samsung is seriously thinking of developing its own OS; it is an initiative supported by the Samsung's new CEO Kwon Oh-hyun. There are two important benefits that Samsung can enjoy if it successfully develops its own operating system -

Samsung will be completely in-charge of its device without having to rely on outside forces for its success. It can handle, control and manage problems ...
... more effectively as it will have control of the hardware and the software part.
Samsung will have an individuality of its own, standing out from the rest of the devices that makes use of the Android platform. Like Apple, it will be able to carve its own niche in the industry.

The Challenge: Although creating Samsung's own mobile operating system and being independent sounds all fantastic, it has its own set of challenges that needs to be considered seriously. Apple has been successful with its own set of devices and iOS has made it increasingly popular in the mobile industry. Others have had their own struggles with the operating system – RIM with its Blackberry OS and Nokia with its Windows OS have found it difficult to give a tough competition to Android based smartphones. Can Samsung risk quitting Android to make its own operating system?
The Way Out: Google claims to remain neutral with its Android system keeping it open for other handset makers. It will be difficult for Samsung to quit Android at this stage, where all its major smartphones come with the Android OS. Android based smartphones have been the most popular among smartphone users due to its mobile applications and its ability to deliver a rich user-experience. Samsung has customized Android to differentiate itself from other Android devices. It might as well do the same thing with its mobile device – customize the handset to give a tough competition to Google's mobile device. It seems unlikely that Google will pose a threat to Samsung with its acquisition of Motorola. So, Samsung can safely continue to exploit the Android development platform and remain the biggest manufacturer of smartphones in the market.Softweb Solutions is an Android Application Development Company.
