TV technologies have been progressing by leaps and bounds during the last couple of decades. CRTs gave way to flat screen CRTs, LCDs and Plasmas. CRTs have advantages that the successors could not incorporate, but then other features made up of the loss with more than adequate advantages that led buyers in droves to buy them. Likewise broadcast technologies too made rapid strides to supplement television making technologies in a big way. Prices for channels too have been falling due to mass reach, so much so that that for a pittance, like the one from Dish TV Packages for example, it is possible to get hundreds of channels in standard and HD formats.

The latest on the trail to hit the market is the 3D television technology. More and more people seem to be going for it in a big way, and you are perhaps one of those who intend to buy one for your home soon. Understanding what 3D is and how it will enhance TV watching experience may be a mystery for many. 3Ds can be viewed in HD too to give that much pleasure to the viewers. Here are some questions and answers that should quench your thirst for knowledge. Understanding 3D ...
... can benefit you when you go shopping for one. It will let you ask the salespersons the right questions and get them answered.

a.3D, what is it and how it works? 3D is not something new. It has been around for almost 4 decades and people usually watched it in movie theatres. To view 3D movies viewers are required to wear special glass. Without the special glass the images will be blurred and making heads or tails can be a nightmare. The chief purpose of 3D is to give a third dimension besides the length and width that common images have. The third dimension in common images is provided by the brain. 3D effect is given by projecting 2 images slightly off from each other on the same screen. When viewed by the special glass they give the third dimension depth.
b.Does 3D viewing on TV screen have any ill effects on the human eye? Generally it does not. But complaints of headache do come, especially if exposed to long hours without breaks. 3D producers argue that the technology itself has nothing to do with the ill effect and attribute headaches to shoddily produced 3D films. Intense 3D effects can tire human eyes in a big way and is also the cause for disorientation in some individuals. However these ill effects are often controlled by making the film less depth oriented so that they want effect the eye any more than 2D films do.
c.Are there some accessories that I need to watch 3D on my television at home? The first prerequisite to watch 3D in home is a 3D television, and needless to say the program too must have been made in 3D. If your cable TV operator does not relay 3D programs and you still want to experience 3D then you can connect to a Blu-Ray player using an appropriate cable. Some set up may require that have an AV receiver or a home theatre system to switch HDMI 3D sources. 3D glasses are a must for everyone watching the programs.
d.Can I see TV shows and networks in 3D? The answer can be disappointing. Not many channels are broadcast in 3D. So the choices are going to be fewer. But chances are that you can use the 3D TV for gaming. Again the options are slim. HD TVs are not capable of being converted into 3D. So until 3D broadcasting becomes popular you will be restricted to the small number of releases that come every year.
