The Golden Opportunity Of Legacy

It is surprising to me how often I hear older folks, maybe in their 50's, 60's, or 70's, say that they were born too soon. They feel too old to learn about computers or the Internet.

This is a shame because the baby boom generation and seasoned citizens have an enormous wealth of knowledge and experience that we younger people (I'm 42 years young) would thoroughly enjoy and greatly benefit from.

In all truth, it is easier than ever before to set up a blog or a website on the Internet. ANYONE can do it if they are given simple, clear instructions. Think of all the possibilities the Internet provides for folks. (And I'm including those who are in their retirement years or have been afraid of the Internet!)

I do what I can to encourage the generation ahead of me to learn to get online because of one word: LEGACY. For the first time in all of human history, ANYONE can leave their "story" behind for the ENTIRE world to read and benefit from.

Do you have any idea how much collective wisdom and experience exists in a couple of older generations who are still around but didn't even see a computer until they ...
... were already 40 or 50 years old?

Coming from the old school of "respect for my elders," I have a genuine desire to read the stories and lessons learned from my parents' and their parents' generation. Modern folks do themselves a great disservice by dismissing older generations as useless, inconvenient and out of touch.

In a society gone mad with the worship of youth and sex, I would love to see our older generations make use of technology that came late for them, but not too late.

If you're 40, 50, 60 or older, don't assume that getting "online" is beyond your ability. Don't sell yourself short like that! If you are reading this and you know older people who feel intimidated by the computer, please print out this article and encourage them to leave their legacy online for those of us who are smart enough to recognize it for the treasure it would be.
