The D Link DIR 655 is so popular with its Xtreme N technology, but with the so popular of the new Apple iPad and HP Touchpad that demand high performance wireless network for optimum data rate transfer, should you upgrade to the newer DIR 665 or DIR 825 Xtreme N routers? Before you upgrade your current DIR 655 router or whatever your current router is, you should know the Wi-Fi specification of either iPad or Touchpad. Both iPad and Touchpad are equipped with Wi-Fi which is powered by the 802.11a/b/g/n standards. This is a dual band Wi-Fi that supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The 5GHz band is typically used to stream HD media for clean network since 5GHz band is relatively less interference than the 2.4GHz band. Any wireless devices which are designed to support the smooth and fast streaming and gaming are typically supporting 5GHz band. Therefore, to get the maximum data rate throughput you should connect the iPad and Touchpad to any wireless environment that support dual band.

The DIR 665 is selectable dual band router with three spatial data streams (N450 technology) delivering the speeds of up to 450Mbps each band. But remember, this is a selectable dual band that means the router can operate in a single band in a time. To support the maximum data rate throughput for your iPad and Touchpad, you should select the router to work in 5GHz band. And the other wireless clients that work in 2.4GHz band cannot connect to the network unless you select the band to 5GHz.
