An international product design prize, the reddot Design Award is presented by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany with categories in product design, design agencies, and design concepts.
Launching in 1955, designers and producers – including LG – can apply for the prizes with the winners being presented in an annual ceremony. The winning products are then presented in the reddot Design Museum.
Across all awards, they receive more than 11,000 submissions from 61 countries.
Product Design Award 2010
In December 2010, Peter Zac, chairman of the reddot Product Design Award, said that a total of 6,396 works from 44 countries were in competition, of which 610 won reddot awards and 62 were being named best of the best.
LG was honoured with the reddot: grand prix for its reusable eco-package design.
Only six out of the total of 6,369 entries received this exclusive award from the reddot jurors.

... eco friendly and versatile design; the packaging can be re-used as a photo frame or pencil holder – amongst many other purposes.
Printed with soybean oil, no artificial materials were used, including glue. With its attractive design, it was also eye catching; ultimately however, it was a reminder of what people can do and how easy it can be to help protect the environment around them.
The judges at the reddot Awards ceremony noted: “LG’s reusable eco package is very simple but very impressive in that it shows a creative solution in design for the environment.”
Going Green
Last year, LG broke a record by reducing emissions by 12.9 million tons, making a fantastic start to their long-term goal of 200 million tons of cumulative reductions between 2009 and 2020, as part of ‘Green 2020’.
In 2011, they are on track to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 14 million tons.
