Alarm bells have been ringing for quite some time as the fossil fuel is said to last for another forty years. Sooner or later, we will face a major energy crisis. In the face of such an alarmist scenario, it is in our interest to cut back our dependency on fossil fuels. It is estimated that we have already used up half of all known oil reserves. Moreover, fossil fuels have been major cause of spiraling level of pollution on the planet. It is not that we are now waking up to the alternative renewable energy solutions. They have been used for quite some time though not in a big way. The advantage of using renewable resources is that they never run out like coal, oil and gas. We can meet all our energy needs using renewable resources like wind, solar and water (hydro).

It has been found that using wind as renewable energy solutions is costly. Anyways, even technology has been advanced enough to efficiently harness the potential of wind energy. Usually, it has been seen as unreliable alternative energy resource. Over the years, technological advancement has been able to lower the cost. Like all other sources of green energy, ...
... the investment is higher in harnessing wind energy than other traditional sources. However the long-term benefits of using wind as alternative energy resource far outweigh the costs incurred. In a study of Midwestern wind farms in USA, it has been found that they yield 17 to 39 percent return on the power consumed by them whereas the standard return on a coal plant is just 11 percent. It has been found that wind energy return much more power than they use.

Of all the renewable energy solutions, solar energy is cost-effective and never energy exhaustible resource. You can meet all your power needs by installing a solar power plant. Besides meeting your needs, you can also make some money by selling the surplus power to a power company. You will have to incur the cost of initial investment on install the solar power system. In the long run, you would recover the investment cost as well as continue to make money.

Water is another abundant alternative energy resource as it constitutes 70 percent of our planet. In the Unites States, hydro-electricity is the most promising and used renewable energy solutions as it constitutes 90 percent of all renewable energy generated.
