The Brand New Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 Compared With The Popular Blackberry Torch
The Blackberry Bold 9900 is the latest handset from RIM. It offers a combination of a touchscreen and a full physical QWERTY keyboard, a combination which has proven popular with the manufacturer’s recent success, the Blackberry Torch.
With the sought after styling and functionality of the Bold and Curve devices, this looks set to prove popular, and comes with a number of performance enhancements which Blackberry fans have been waiting for.
So why exactly are Blackberry fans getting excited about this device? In this article I will look at how some of the key features compare to previous Blackberry models.
Screen
Compared to the last model, the 9780, the screen is greatly improved. Slightly larger, and offering a vastly improved pixel resolution, it also functions as a touchscreen. As well as the TFT capacitive touchscreen, the Blackberry Bold 9900 also offers an optical trackpad to navigate the user interface.
Processor
With a 1.2 GHz processor, users of the Blackberry Bold Touch have all the power they need on hand to run demanding applications, multitask, and surf the web at greater ...
... speeds. The Blackberry Bold 9780 on offers a624 MHz chip, which is fine for running the applications of offer to that particular handset, but obviously a world away from the Blackberry Bold 9900.
Camera
Despite only offering 5 megapixels as with previous Bold models, the Bold Touch 9900 is packed with a long list of image enhancing features, and is also the first Blackberry phone to shoot high definition video footage, in 720p. So what features are included with the camera? Autofocus, image stabilization, face recognition, LED flash and geo-tagging capabilities are all included right out of the box, making this arguably the best Blackberry cameraphone to date.
Web Browsing
A smartphone would be largely useless if it could not browse the internet. The Blackberry Bold 9900 does this very effectively. One of the most important aspects of this is the speeds at which data is downloaded. When the handset is connected to a 3G network it offers download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps, which is on par with the likes of the HTC Desire HD. Of course the handset also offers Wi-Fi connectivity, which can be a money saver if you are on a restricted data plan. To browse the web, the full HTML browser benefits from the 1.2 GHz processor to load pages quickly.
Internal Storage
Smartphones are being used more and more as storage devices for music and videos, as well as Microsoft Office documents and of course downloaded apps. With previous Bold models, a microSD card was all but essential if you wanted to store any number of files in your phone. The Blackberry Bold 9900 however, offers 8GB of internal storage, which is enough to store an average sized music collection. Should further storage be required, there is also a microSD slot which can accommodate a card of up to 32GB.
As you can see, the specifications of this device are a world away from similar Blackberry models which were released less than a year ago. It is therefore likely that the Blackberry Bold 9900 will prove tremendously popular, an surely be a big boost for the manufacturer, especially given the competition out there.
