Like the presidential plane a group of fleeing U.S. politicians took in the movie "2012", the U.S. "doomsday jet" is the reality version. Recently U.S. Air Force uncommonly disclosed the jet's interior that even faced with nuclear war, asteroid impacts or other "doomsday situations", dignitaries aboard can be saved by its protective devices and can even temporarily achieve some government and military functions in the air.

Militarily numbered E-4B, attached to U.S. Air Force's 55th flight formation, the $ 223m, Boeing 747 airliner originated jet now has a total of 4 in service. With a capacity of 112 passengers, it's much more powerful than ordinary 747s, especially up to as fast as 602 miles per hour which is 40m/h faster than 747s. In addition, owed to an astonishing fuel capacity as much as 185 tons, it can stay in the air for days without being refueled. It is reported that carrying a few officials, it continuously flew for 72 hours by United States coastlines and got air refueling.

165lb of electronic equipments and an anti-nuclear-radiation designed protective shell ensures passengers' safeness. The jet captain ...
... says that more than one such aircraft are standby 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

"No matter where or when the objectives are but on the planet, give us the call number, we will be there and pick them up." A U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sergeant says, "We can even keep in touch with a submarine deep in the ocean, and dock with it by throwing a 5-mile-long rope from the reserve tank."

In fact, the "doomsday jet" has been developed early in Jan. 1980 without being announced. According to plan, once encounter a nuclear attack, the "doomsday jets" will fly three groups of U.S. political and military dignitaries from Washington to three different directions in the States in five minutes whenever after receiving the order to take off.

The "doomsday plane", however, does have "shortcomings". U.S. Defense Secretary, Gates, complains to reporters that without a window by the seat in such an entirely sealed aircraft, it's not a Secretary taking a fancy jet but a Spartan warrior in suffering.
