When the ICD Gemini with the powerful NVIDA Tegra 2 processor was launched, the pundits predicted that it will end the iPad’s reign and rightly so; it had Flash support, impressive camera, HD video, an SD card and the incredible 40 hours replaceable battery. But the ICD Gemini which came in with a bang went back with a whimper because it had “optional apps” and also because it was a bit big for a tablet. The reason why people show interest in tablets is because of the apps; the absence of apps renders any tablet useless no matter how technically strong it is.

The Blackberry Playbook from RIM though small in size, driven by a powerful processor and with awesome front and rear cameras had drawbacks too and could not last long in the competition. Firstly because it had a small battery life (only 5 to 6 hours), secondly its small 7 inch display was not accepted by the people and thirdly because it came with Wi-Fi connectivity only.

The iOS4.3 operating system of the iPad2 was not only fast but was also extremely user friendly. The wide selection of apps (65,000 and counting) was an added bonus. The apps also downloaded with ease and speed and worked exceptionally well. The Android 3.0 on the other hand though supported by superior multi tasking and e-mail notifications, could still not upset the Apple’s cart. This was because of two main reasons; the lack of apps; while the iPad2 boasted of more than 65,000, Xoom only had a modest 100. Another factor was that unlike the iOS which had only the folders option to arrange the Home Screen, the Android 3.0 offered so many options for arranging things that it caused serious confusion.

Design and dimensions wise too the iPad2 was preferred as it was slimmer and lighter and also because it had its buttons and speakers conveniently located. The display of the Xoom though large was over shadowed by the 9.7 inch display of the iPad2 because of the IPS technology which offered a wider viewing angle and because of the oleophobic coating which protected it against finger prints.

The iPad2 itself is not a perfect device; it has average cameras which are good for video chatting but the quality of both still photos and video recording is mediocre. It lacks the USB port and Adobe Flash is still a big no-no for Apple although its inclusion could have made surfing the web most ideal. But the thousands of apps at its disposal and the long lasting battery have really made it the Best Computer Tablet among its competitors.

Conclusion

Ever since the launch of the iPad, many tablets have been designed and launched by other manufacturers but they could not come up with the user friendliness, long battery life and the large apps especially designed for the iPad and then for the iPad2. The iPad2 has all the features a user desires in a PC tablet and this factor has made it the best computer tablet.
