The LG Optimus 2X was the first smartphone to feature a dual-core processor. What exactly does this mean, and what are the benefits to the user?

Having a dual-core processor essentially means that there is more computing power on hand to handle demanding tasks. Examples include multitasking, running demanding applications, as well as speeding up the response times of the touchscreen and loading of internet pages.

All of this may sound good on paper, but what does it mean for users during day to day use of the phone? Let’s take a closer look at what a dual-core processor will provide its users, and the benefits of this cutting edge technology...

The LG Optimus 2X is a great all rounder. Its spec list provides endless possibilities. Android 2.2 is the operating system of choice, and this means that users have access to the Android Market. This allows them to browse hundreds of thousands of apps in many different categories which can be downloaded straight to the phone. Obviously, some are more advanced, and therefore demanding in terms of the amount of processing power required to run them. This is one area ...
... where having a dual-core processor makes all the difference. It allows these demanding applications to run smoothly, even when multitasking. When you open an application with the LG Optimus 2X it will load instantly, rather than make you wait several seconds to load. This may sound trivial, but makes all the difference during day to day use.

The LG Optimus 2X has an advanced touchscreen. It boasts IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen technology, and this can be demanding on the processor, especially when using the screen to navigate the UI, let alone the power required to display high definition images and videos. The industry standard for smartphones currently seems to be 1GHz, but the 1.2GHz dual-core offering in the LG Optimus 2X offers lightening fast response times with virtually zero lag; to the point where users can notice the difference between this and a lower spec smartphone when operating the touchscreen.

Of course there is much more to the LG Optimus 2X than its processor. Let’s not forget that the handset packs an 8 MP digital camera with 1080p video capture, HDMI mirroring and superb all round performance, all run on the renowned Android operating system. The processor is just one specification of this phone, but it works in harmony with the rest of the phone’s hardware and indeed software to provide a fantastic user experience.

If you like to have the latest technology, the LG Optimus 2X could be the ideal smartphone for you. But who knows, at the rate at which smartphone technology advances, it could only be a year before all new smartphone boast this impressive technology.
