Recently RIM announced the newest addition to the popular Blackberry range at their annual conference in Orlando. Named the Blackberry Bold Touch this model looks set to cause a stir amongst consumers for two main reasons. Firstly it is the successor to the original Bold handset, a model that proved hugely popular for the manufacturers and helped Blackberry further establish themselves as a leading smartphone developer. Secondly the model should prove a great success thanks to its overall quality, the phone is packed with features and boasts a sleek and eye catching design that although may not stray to far from familiar Blackberry territory does spice up the original format nicely.

One of the main reasons the handset appeals in the design department is because it is the most slimline Blackberry ever released. At just 10.5 mm the phone feels compact yet never at any time does the keypad feel cramped thanks to the keys being placed slightly closer to the edge of the chassis than on the original bold handset. The phone also weighs in considerably lighter than other models within the range at 130 grammes. This figure ...
... is truly impressive given that the phone is sporting a full Qwerty keypad in addition to a large screen. Internally a new processor ensures that any operation you are performing on the device is done quickly and efficiently. This chip is a massive 1.2Ghz speed which puts the Bold Touch alongside some of the real big hitters in the smartphone world such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation. Alongside this chip is a notable 768MB of RAM and an internal storage capacity of 8GB which is joined by a micro SD card slot should any further expansion be required.

Like some of the other more recent releases from RIM, the Blackberry Bold Touch offers users both a good quality touch screen whilst also including the navigational optical trackpad which can take over from the screen when you may require slightly more precision. This is perhaps best employed when it comes to the editing of text documents. The touchscreen itself measures 2.8 inches and into this size manages to fit a high standard of resolution at 640 x 480 pixels. The combination of this together with the screen size gives the model an impressive PPI rating of 287 which is more than many of the large screen smartphones available. Being a capacitive panel the responsiveness of the display is great and shows just how far the manufacturers have come in this area given that a couple of years ago the lack of touch panels was an area that let Blackberry down.

The Blackberry Bold Touch sticks to the tried and trusted format that has seen the range establish themselves as leaders in the mobile phone world. Despite the traditional look, everything else on the model has been brought right up to date, with the specification impressing greatly along with the build quality and design.

The Blackberry Bold Touch and the Motorola Spice are coming soon
