Being the 9th largest country in Europe, Poland certainly commands interest in the Central European belt. Earlier the capital of Poland was in Gniezno, which was later shifted to Krakow and it continued to be so for a period of time. Now it is the capital of Lesser Poland, Voivodeship. The second largest city in Poland is Krakow and it is one among the oldest city in Poland. It is a major artistic, academic, cultural center and is also an economic centre of Poland. Anyone who plans to visit Poland will definitely enjoy Krakow and will feel the visit worthy.

The city of Krakow has 18 districts and the river Vistula, runs from west to east, almost parting the city into two.

Some of the architectural works can be seen in the buildings of Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic. Some of the palaces, mansions and churches contain plenty of architectural works and other art works with a variety of, paintings, furnishings, stained glass and scriptures.

One can find Gothic St. Mary’s Basilica, in the market square, which has an interesting story. It is an altar, built in the 14th century. From its main tower one can hear trumpet sound every hour, although it stops suddenly in the middle of the sound process. There is a story behind this. When Tatar invaded Poland during the 13th century, a guard played the tune to warn people about the invasion. He was shot to death while playing the trumpet, by a Tatar soldier and the sound ended when he was shot dead. Krakow is often considered as an architectural gem in Central Europe.
