The Htc Desire S And Wildfire S Present Noteable Alternatives To The Original Handsets
HTC has released updates of a number of its popular handsets. The S Series sees a number of upgrades to the popular HTC Wildfire, HTC Desire and HTC Incredible. Two of the most popular in the UK have been the HTC Desire and Wildfire. But what upgrades have been made to the phones? In this article we will take a look at how the specifications have changed to create the HTC Wildfire S and Desire S in comparison to the original models. Are they worthy of a closer look, or are they just a gimmick to make you part with your hard earned cash?
HTC Wildfire S
The HTC Wildfire was something of an entry level Android smartphone. Whilst its specifications were not up to those of the Desire, it still made a great choice for those who were looking for a highly functional touchscreen smartphone on a budget. The HTC Wildfire S sees a number of improvements to the spec list, and brings the popular Wildfire bang up to date. First of all, a more powerful processor has been installed. The original Wildfire has a 528MHz processor, but this has been beefed up to 600MHz in the Wildfire S. This provides the power to run more demanding ...
... applications, multitask, and provide faster speeds for features such as the touchscreen and even allows web pages to load faster. Another notable upgrade is the Android software. The original handset has Android 2.1 (aka Eclair) installed, whilst the Wildfire S has the newer version 2.3 (aka Gingerbread).
More powerful hardware and software mean that the user experience is like to be greater with the Wildfire S than it was with the original. The new handset carries out essentially the same tasks as the original, and you would have to be something of a smartphone expert for the changes to be noticeable during day to day use.
HTC Desire S
The HTC Desire S has similar upgrades over its predecessor as the HTC Wildfire S does. The processor remains the same 1GHz as in the original Desire. There is little need to upgrade this anyway as 1GHz is pretty much the industry standard for smartphones and provides ample computing power for even the most demanding applications and tasks. Also, the operating system is upgraded to Android Gingerbread as it is on the Wildfire S. One of the major differences is the ability to record HD video. The original Desire was unable to do this, although the new Desire S is capable of shooting 720p video footage. The battery life is also slightly increased, which is needed to run some of the new features, and allows slightly more talk time over 2G and 3G networks.
The HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire are both great phones, and very popular. The new versions of these handsets are ideal if you are serious about having the most up to date technology available, but essentially they carry out the same tasks in a similar fashion. During day to day use, the differences will only be noticeable to few users who are very clued up about mobile phone technology.
To answer the question at the start of this article, I would say that these phones are no gimmick. They are simply on hand to offer a more advanced alternative to the original handsets. After all, HTC is a company known to spoil its customers for choice.
