Lately the Symbian operating system has fallen behind the likes of Apples iOS and Googles Android platform in terms of not only popularity with consumers but in the functionality stakes as well. The latest update to this platform attempts to iron out the latter problem with the knock on effect being that the system may be adopted by many new consumers. Nokia have long been associated with Symbian and recently we saw details of one of their new flagship models surface in the shape of the impressive X7 device. Now a second top end phone joins it in the shape of the new E6, a phone sure to stir up interest amongst business users and people who utilise instant messaging services thanks to the inclusion of a physical keypad.

In all honesty the Nokia E6 looks like a Blackberry device with its neatly laid out keypad nestling snugly beneath the phones display. Despite the impressive list of features that the phone sports there is one area where this model stands head and shoulders above the competition and that is in the battery life department. I speak from personal experience saying that it is all well and good owning ...
... a large screen smartphone with a powerful processor and an endless list of features, but unless you plan to recharge the handset fully every night then they are pretty useless. This is not a problem that the E6 will suffer from thanks to its high capacity 1500mAh battery. Although not vastly bigger then many of its competitors it does manage to squeeze out some remarkable performance times of over 672 standby hours and if you look at actual talk time the figure is equally as impressive at 14.8 hours. These are the figures quoted by the manufacturer and in practice they will be less thanks to general usage of the phone but at 19 days standby and 8 hours talk time they still figures totally over shadow the competition.

So how does the Nokia E6 squeeze so much life out of it battery? For starter the screen is an area that places much strain on the battery so Nokias decision to opt for a 2.46 inch display has had obvious benefits. Yes the screen seems small compared to many new models but in all fairness those looking for a larger screen would not be opting for a model with a full keypad and would be more likely to side with the Nokia X7. Despite its size the screen manages to offer remarkable quality with over 16 million colours being displayed along with a dpi rating of over 300, which puts it alongside the likes of the iPhone 4 in terms of quality. The screen helps battery life as does the updated OS which offers the user improved power management and a combination of these two factors is the main reason why the E6 impresses so much in this area.

If you are drawn to the functionality of a Qwerty keypad along with the reliability of a Nokia handset then the E6 is the phone for you, complete with its excellent office features and simply jaw dropping battery life.

The Nokia E6 and the HTC ChaCha are coming soon
