Motorola Milestone 3 Brings Webtop To Droid Series
Motorola have been in the mobile phone industry since its early days in the 1970s and just a few years back were one of the top manufacturers in the world alongside Nokia. It was not so long ago that Motorola was breaking ground and breaking sales records with their popular RAZR handsets, although the advent of the iPhone and touchscreen smartphones in 2007 proved disastrous for the company.
The emergence of the Google Android OS saved the day for Motorola when they released their debut touchscreen handset the Motorola Droid released in 2009 and known outside of the United States as the Motorola Milestone. This was the phone that revived Motorola's fortunes and spawned a number of sequel devices including the Milestone XT720 and Milestone 2.
The Milestone range has proved immensely popular due to its QWERTY keyboards and Timescape interface, which was one of the first smartphone interfaces to successfully implement full social networking integration and was the first smartphone to feature Google Maps.
The latest Milestone features a similar design to the original handsets albeit with a slimmer body and an ...
... improved 5-row keyboard. The Milestone 3 will be Motorola's first dual core smartphone and come packing a nippy 1GB RAM providing an exceptionally fast rendering of the Google OS.
The screen has had a revamp too, being upped a notch from the earlier 3.7" to a roomier 4" display. This will serve to make the Milestone 3 more ideally suited to video content and web browsing and the sharper qHD resolution provides far superior visual quality over its predecessors. While featuring excellent 3G and Wi-Fi connections, including DLNA, the Milestone 3 will come with a 4G counterpart in the United States in the form of the Droid X2. Unfortunately this will not make its way to the UK as there are currently no 4G networks for it to operate on.
Like its high profile cousin the Atrix the Milestone 3 is rumoured to feature support for Motorola's webtop OS, which means that the phone could be compatible with the additional laptop and media hub docking ports of the later smartphone. The phone is also expected to come with an HDMI port which, alongside the DLNA Wi-Fi, will allow you to connect the phone to a home TV or other device.
The Milestone 3 will more than likely not see release for another few months, with some sources speculating that we may even have to wait until September to get hold of one. Considering this phone has not been officially announced by Motorola just yet this seems like a real possibility.
While rumours are now speculating that the phone will come running Android Gingerbread it is entirely conceivable that Google will have released a new update to their mobile OS by that point, with Android fanatics suggesting it will be known as Android Ice Cream Sandwich. With this scheduled for release sometime in mid-2011 it seems quite conceivable that this could make its way onto the Milestone 3.
