It is likely that you are a world traveler so you are currently on the market for an unlocked Global System Mobile communications (GSM) phone. GSM is a type of digital mobile phone service that is an international standard. For those looking to travel to Europe or other parts of the world, GSM is the only type of cellular service available. A GSM device is that it is not directly linked to you. Instead, GSM phones have a Subscriber Information Module (SIM) card with unique serial number that identifies users to the service provider.

The important thing to know here is that you can put a SIM card into any compatible phone and the phone will then behave as it is your own by allowing access to your personal contacts and all other data that may be uploaded to your SIM card. The wireless company recognizes your SIM and allows access. Be aware that many wireless providers lock their phones only allowing SIMs to properly work that are issued by the provider.

Many service providers lock phones as a way to create a brand loyalty and exclusivity. If a consumer is very interested in a cell phone but the particular phone is ...
... only offered by one service provider, consumers often opt to go with the service provider simply for the sake of access to the desired phone. Many carriers claim that locking devices is necessary to subsidize the cost of the phone.

There have been cases where carriers have unlocked phones for a fee at a consumer's request. The issue with these phones is that there is no guarantee that the phone will function properly with other carriers due to proprietary settings sometimes installed on locked handsets.

Third party vendors often offer original, unlocked phones without proprietary settings. The advantage of third party unlocked phones is that these phones work well with generally any carrier that uses SIM cards. This disadvantage is that prices of third party vendor unlocked GSM phone are retail or priced through-the-roof. That is, until Configure My Phone.

Configure My Phone offers premium unlocked GSM phones at the most reasonable prices.
