Dreambox 500C and Dreambox 500S may look similar in appearance but the properties of both vary a lot. Dreambox 500C is a small digital Linux Set-Top Box based receiver with card sharing function whereas, Dreambox 500S is a small Linux satellite TV receiver with 1 x Smartcard-Reader.

Let's first talk about Dreambox 500C. It has many different skins which when applied makes the user experience completely customizable. And the way of installing Dreambox 500C is very simple. All you have to do is to switch on the power button after you have plugged the scart into your TV and the plug and cable into the back of the box. Dreambox 500C is for cable usage and is upgradeable via Ethernet / null modem RS232. The features of Dreambox 500C include MPEG2 Hardware decoding, fully adaptable OSD in different languages, fully automatic service scan, 1 x Scart-interfaces (which is fully controlled by software) and SPDI/F Interface for digital bit stream out. EPG (electronic program guide) is also supported by Dreambox 500C.

And now let us see about Dreambox 500S. It is nothing but a satellite TV receiver using which you can get ...
... to see HD quality images. Most of the properties of Dreambox 500C and Dreambox 500S are nearly the same with minor differences between the both. The properties of Dreambox 500S include 250 MHz IBM PowerPC Processor, 2 LED status, supports multiple LNB-Switching control which also supports DiSEqC, 100Mbit full duplex Ethernet Interface. Dreambox 500S also supports EPG (electronic program guide).

Both Dreambox 500C and Dreambox 500S allows you to view free to air channels with good quality pictures. They also allow you to surf the internet and view all your emails. The only facility they don’t have as compared to other Dreambox is that they don’t offer the facility to record, rewind, pause or play according to the needs of the customer. Other than that, these Dreambox gives you very good quality viewing experience and are extremely user friendly. You can now get a clear picture of Dreambox 500C and Deambox 500S.

The dreambox 800, 600, 600s, dreambox 800s, 500, 500s, and Dreambox Sky are Linux receivers that operate just like a computer. You can browse the internet, check your emails, watch iPlayer, listen to your music etc. Dreambox HD is the first Linux receiver to have High definition and PVR capability.
