Has Political Correctness Gone Mad?

Political Correctness or PC to give it its' shortened and more popular title is now entering the realms of silliness. Mind you it has always been that way but now PC has taken a giant leap forward.

Let me explain.

I live in the United Kingdom, a multi cultural society where 98% of the time all peoples of all race and culture get on very well together.

So why is it that people who seem to think that they know best try to put a stop to this living in harmony by making brainless rules and regulations.

In one of the daily newspapers last week, it reported that a large national bank announced that they and their staff would no longer refer to savings boxes as Piggy Banks in case the word Piggy offended a person of the Muslim Religion.

The fact that pigs are also offensive to Jews had never occurred to these PC crackpots and so had been referring to Piggy Banks for years.

It gets worse.

Also last week Lambeth Council (Also known as Loony) started to refer to Christmas lights as Winter Lights. WHY? Who is it offending? Has anyone from another faith actually written to the council ...
... and complained?

A Muslim Council of Britain spokesman replied that Christmas lights add to the festive atmosphere surrounding the Christmas season and are welcome by any individual.

The Inland Revenue has banned staff from helping the Operation Christmas Child charity because of its' Christian Links.

The Red Cross and Job Centres have told staff not to put up Christmas trees or decorations.

Finally, Birmingham Council has renamed Christmas Winterval.

I wonder if these unintelligent people from the PC brigade have these silly rules in their own home. Do they tell their little children that they won't be getting any presents at Christmas this year because it might offend the little boy down the road who is a Muslim? I very much doubt it. Are their houses the only ones in the whole street that does not have lights and decorations over Christmas?

I'm sorry, but this country has really gone to the dogs (can I say that without offending cat lovers?) when we get daft rules like this.

I am a Church going Christian and have a great understanding and respect for other faiths and religions. I am certain that is true for peoples of those other faiths and religions. I know that in my local Post Office that is run by a family of Hindus that they love putting up the Christmas decorations and lights and are only too pleased to display the Christmas cards that they receive from their customers.

In the same light I know of a restaurant run by Hindus that don't mind cooking steak. (Cows are sacred to a Hindi.)

So what is going to happen in the future if we don't stop the PC brigade now?

I can see that all shops will have to stop selling beef so we don't offend the Hindu faith. Pork will also have to be stopped as it is offensive to Muslims and Jews. Clothes shops will have to stop selling leather coats if they are made out of cow or pig skin. And so on it goes.

Meanwhile lets us look at the other side of the coin. It does have two halves after all. Is the PC brigade going to stop other faiths from celebrating their religious festivals in case it offends Christians? Are they going to stop the loudspeaker chants coming from Mosques calling the faithful to prayer?

I honestly can not see this happening.

So let's get this into some perspective and sort this out before this country becomes the laughing stock of the whole world.

To the loony councils like Lambeth and Birmingham and to the entire Ever so right PC brigade I say this.

If you are going to ban Christian Festivals in case it offends other faiths, then you also have to ban their religious festivals as well.

However, as you will never do those things, in case it offends them, then keep your daft ideas to yourself and leave Christmas and the other Christian festivals alone.
