The OnePlus 15R was finally launched in India yesterday, December 17, 2025, and it is a benchmark-setting "flagship killer" Android smartphone right from the start. OnePlus finally broke away from the tradition of using last-year's processors for the R series, putting the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 into the OnePlus 15R.
Below is a thorough review based on the official release and initial expert reviews.

Performance: “World First” Chipset
The headlining specification is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which goes ahead to use a 3nm process. It’s the first smartphone in the world to come with the chip, and it shifts the R-series to a performance powerhouse that goes head to head with the flagship OnePlus 15.
Speed: It comes with an increase in CPU performance by 36% and GPU by 11% compared to the OnePlus 13R.

The phone resembles a sleek OnePlus 15 model with a flat body design and a round cameras enclosure.
IP Ratings: It has the most comprehensive protection package: IP66, IP68, and IP69; that is, it is resistant to strong hot water jets and immersion.
“Plus Key”-As a replacement for the Alert Slider, there is the Plus Key, which in connection with “Plus Mind” (AI space) utilizes Google Gemini to save and summarize information on the screen.
Cameras: Good, Not Great
One area where Oneplus cut costs is the photographic system.

Cons (The Trade-offs)
Limited Camera Setup: It doesn't have a Telephoto (Zoom) Camera. The primary 50MP camera quality is good, but zoomed images are a bit fuzzy. The ultra-wide 8MP camera is quite average compared to 2025 smartphones standards.
No Wireless Charging Support: OnePlus had to sacrifice wireless charging support to accommodate the massive 7,400mAh battery, keeping the price low.No LTPO Technology: It has a super-high 165Hz refresh rate, but it doesn't support the latest LTPO display.
As a result, the phone can't adjust the refresh rate dynamically to 1Hz for power-saving, although that's a minor issue and will have a negligible effect on power efficiency when engaged in static tasks.
