Introduction

The Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season has begun on a thrilling note, with Bihar’s young batting star Ayush Loharuka announcing himself in grand style. The right-handed batter struck a majestic double century (212 runs) against Arunachal Pradesh, leading Bihar to a commanding position in their opening match at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna.

This performance has instantly placed Loharuka among India’s most promising domestic cricketers — a name to watch as the season unfolds.

A Knock That Defined Character

Loharuka’s innings was a masterclass in temperament, patience, and technical brilliance. Batting for nearly seven hours, he faced 340 deliveries, hitting 28 fours and 3 sixes.
He began cautiously, focusing on building a partnership, before opening up his game once he crossed the three-figure mark.

Such innings are rare in modern cricket, where aggression often overshadows technique. Loharuka reminded fans of the traditional Ranji spirit — where runs are built session by session, through grit and concentration.

“Ayush batted like a senior pro,” remarked Bihar’s ...
... assistant coach. “His shot selection and mental toughness were extraordinary. He carried the innings with maturity beyond his years.”

Bihar’s Bowlers Seal the Advantage

After Loharuka’s 212 powered Bihar to 482/8 declared, the bowlers took charge.
Harsh Raj and Sachin Kumar struck early blows, reducing Arunachal Pradesh to 105/5 at the end of Day 3. With a lead of 377 runs, Bihar are now in full control and eyeing an innings victory.

This collective performance has given Bihar a strong start in their Plate Group campaign, showcasing their balance between batting depth and bowling precision.

Why Loharuka’s Innings Matters

For Bihar, this is more than just a match lead — it’s a statement of resurgence.
Since being reinstated into India’s domestic fold, Bihar has focused on rebuilding its team culture and nurturing homegrown talent.
Loharuka’s double century is symbolic of that journey — a story of hard work, faith, and opportunity.

His performance also serves as inspiration for countless young cricketers from smaller states who dream of making a mark in India’s premier domestic tournament.
