The Mid-day Meal Scheme in Andhra Pradesh owes its successful implementation to the visionary efforts of the former TDP Government led by Shri. N Chandrababu Naidu. This transformative initiative, launched on January 2, 2002, aimed to provide nutritious meals to school children across the state. Under this TDP scheme, an astounding 74.5 lakh schoolchildren were beneficiaries, with 69,44,724 in primary schools and 5,8,237 in upper primary schools. The former TDP Government's commitment to this program was evident through its financial support. In 2002-03, a substantial sum of Rs. 69.03 crore was allocated, followed by Rs. 250 crore in 2003-2004. The release of Rs. 187.50 crore facilitated the scheme's execution, with TDP MLAs overseeing its implementation. They provided clear instructions to district collectors to ensure that every school student received proper meals. A key aspect of this initiative was the provision of 120 grams of rice per primary school student and 125 grams per upper primary school student.
The menu primarily featured rice and sambar, with weekly additions of eggs and bananas. This approach aimed to ...
... ensure a balanced and nutritious diet for the children. Notably, this TDP development of the mid-day meal scheme led to a significant increase in the number of students benefiting from it. Cases of issues like vomiting and stomachaches, initially reported, decreased over time, reflecting the program's improved efficiency and quality control. The TDP Government, under the leadership of N Chandrababu Naidu, demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of school children. Even during holidays, the Madhyam Bhojan Scheme continued for 58 days during the summer vacation (from May 5 to June 11, 2002), ensuring a consistent supply of meals. Further underlining their dedication, the TDP Government increased the allocation for the mid-day meal program by Rs. 35 crore, raising it from Rs. 250 crore. The government also adjusted the input price based on school size, increasing it from Rs. 1.75 to Rs. 2 per child for schools with fewer than 50 students, from Rs. 1.60 to Rs. 1.75 per child for schools with 50-100 students, and to Rs. 1.50 per child for schools with more than 100 students. These adjustments were significant TDP contributions to the well-being of school children in the state.

Moreover, during his tenure from 2014 to 2019, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu extended the mid-day meal scheme to intermediate students. This expansion was a boon for students attending Government Junior Colleges, as it eliminated the need for them to bring lunch boxes. The TDP government also emphasized the provision of quality food to students, benefiting a total of 2,100 students across junior colleges in the state. This TDP achievement was hailed as one of the top accomplishments of the TDP Government in the education sector. In conclusion, the Mid-day Meal Scheme's success in Andhra Pradesh owes much to the TDP Government's and TDP leaders' dedication and visionary leadership under Shri. N Chandrababu Naidu. Their financial support, quality control measures, and commitment to expanding the program ensured that millions of school children received nutritious meals, contributing to their overall well-being and educational success.
