Hash is a cannabis concentrate made by pressing or rubbing together the plant's resin glands. Hashish is brown, khaki, or sandy brown.

Hash is usually smoked. Hashish is made by repeatedly compressing the resin, or trichome glands, from a cannabis plant. Written texts from the 12th and 13th centuries mention hashish. Hash's appearance and texture depend on its history and preparation method.

Sieved hashish is made from harvested and cured cannabis resin powder. Modern methods sift trichomes from plant material using fine mesh or silk. Mesh or fabrics with varying pore sizes help refine trichomes. The kief powder is pressed into flat, hard, or chalky hash bars, slabs, or bricks.

The Difference of Hash and Weed

Cannabis produces hash and weed. Hash is a concentrate made from the resin of the cannabis plant.

Hash vs. Other Cannabis Concentrates

Original concentrate is hash. It's made of trichome glands, which contain many beneficial cannabis compounds. Cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids of cannabis may have medical benefits. Terpenes boost THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids' effects. ...
... Dr. Ethan B. Russo wrote about cannabinoids and terpenes' entourage effect in a 2011 study. Flavonoids have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and terpenes can enhance the cannabis experience.

Hash is a low-tech concentrate that doesn't require lab equipment or solvents.

Hash is shelf-stable. Dry resin powder used to make sieved hash can last years if stored properly. Once kief is pressed into a slab or bar, degradation increases. Before pressing, the trichome gland acts as a natural barrier to oxygen, moisture, and other factors that degrade potency and flavor.

How Hash is Consumed

Hash is smoked alone or with flower. Edibles are tastier and easier to dose than smoking.

How to Smoke Hash

In a bowl/joint: Hash can boost the potency and effects of flower in a bong, bubbler, or pipe. A joint can be smoked with hash. (If you're a beginner, skip the rolling machine.) Before adding hash, spread ground flower on rolling paper. Dryer, chalkier hash can be sprinkled on the flower before rolling. Warming softens and molds higher-quality hash. Warm it in your palms. Make a thin serpentine and place it on the flower. Slowly roll, secure, and enjoy.

Hot Knifing: Hash is smoked alone. "Hot knifing" is a method for smoking hash where two metal knives, usually butter knives, are heated on a hot surface, like an electric range. The knives are heated until red-hot. Hash is placed on the heated knife blade. The second knife helps steady and speed up the hash's burn, producing more smoke. When it starts to smoke, the smoker places the wide end of a funnel-shaped instrument (like a 2-liter soda bottle cut in half) over the knives to inhale as much smoke as possible.

Smoke in a Pipe: Hash can be smoked in pipes. Use a screen when smoking hash in a pipe to prevent inhaling smoldering hash. Screens can be stainless steel or titanium mesh or flower or star-shaped glass. Put the screen in the pipe's bowl and add hash. Heat it with a lighter or hemp wick until smoke appears. Remove heat and inhale mouthpiece.

Dabbing: Hash can be dabbed like other concentrates and extracts. Dabbing uses a dab rig. Drop hash on the hot nail using a dab tool. Once smoke appears, place a carb cap over the nail and inhale through the dab rig's mouthpiece.
