In 2020, the average apartment size was 1,150 square feet, and in 2019 it was 1,050 square feet. In the seven largest cities, there is an average growth of apartments by 10%. With the covid-19 pandemic making working from home new and normal, homebuyers are now opting for larger apartments. The average apartment size increased for the first time in four years in the top seven cities, according to data from ANAROCK Property Consultants. Since 2016, the average size of apartments has been decreasing year by year. 2017 saw the greatest decline. Apartment sizes went from an average of 1,440 square feet in 2016 to 1,260 square feet in 2017, a decline of 13%.

The main factors which were responsible for the reduction in apartment size in previous years were affordability and the millennial preference for low-maintenance homes.
