Flat belts are widely used in the field of agricultural machinery, like also for power transmission in general industrial use. They are made with cotton/polyester and nylon/nylon fabric, and a variable number of fabric layers according to application. Especial industrial and agricultural applications. Without cover and variable number of fabric layers according to requirement or application.

Flat belts have narrow rectangular cross-section. In fact the earliest belt used in industrial drives was high performance flat belt. Larger flat belt drives were in use as group-drive system in industry decades ago. A large motor drives several machines through pulleys and leather belts. Later, reinforced flat flats were introduced which have almost replaced the leather belts due to their superior characteristics. The important material properties to be considered for the construction of flat belts are high coefficient of friction between the belt and the rim of the pulleys, flexibility, durability and strength of the belt. Leather belts were widely used ...
... earlier. Leather belts offer moderate coefficient of friction between the rim of the pulley and belt. But they become rigid, and exhibit creep over a period of time. They also have poor resistance against moisture. The leather belts are available in two varieties, viz., oak-tanned and mineral or chrome-tanned. Few layers of leathers are bonded together by adhesives to get the required thickness of belt. Commercial leather belts are specified according to the number of layers, such as single, two, three and four-ply belts.

Another category of flat belts is the reinforced belts, which are widely used nowadays. The reinforced belts are made of urethane or rubber matrix, reinforced with fabric or nylon cords or steel wires. In the case of fabric reinforced rubber belts, canvas- or cotton-ducks fabrics are used. Rubber impregnated fabric belts are cheaper, have more resistant to moisture than leather belts. Either one or both the surfaces of belt (the latter is used in reversing drives, discussed in section 2.8) require friction surface coating. Flat belts are quite, efficient at high speeds, and can transmit large amounts of power over long distances. They are mostly available in roll form and are cut into required length, the cut ends are joined using special kits.

The coefficients of friction of leather, polyamide and urethane flat belt are 0.4, 0.5 to 0.8 and 0.7 respectively. The reinforced belts are available with a density of 0.97 to 1.29 g/cm3. The thickness of flat belts ranges from 0.75 to 5 mm. There is no upper limit on the length of flat belt to be used. Basically all type of industrial rubber belts are highly demanded in the markets globally. One of the most widely used for almost any industrial power transmission purpose, these are rubber based belts manufactured with high quality materials and state-of-the-art technology. Timing belts are oil, heat, and abrasion-resistant. The standard trapezoidal tooth timing belt design performs poorly in high torque applications and high power drives at lower speeds. To overcome this disadvantage the High Torque Belt (HTB) was developed using a more efficient tooth profile. All the rubber timing belt manufacturers prefer this type of belt.

Stock timing belts have fiberglass tension members, neoprene body with nylon covered teeth, all bonded together for maximum strength. For non-stock widths, Jason cuts specified widths from our large supply of timing belt sleeves on special order. Mini-pitch MXL (.080-inch pitch) timing belts are also available.

Open-end belting Neoprene, fiberglass reinforced for positioning, metering, and open-close applications. Open end timing belting is specified by an "L" for long length, the belt pitch letters and the width code. i.e. L8M-20 Length is specified in feet.
