As Christmas approaches the battle for the attention of customers goes into overdrive and nowhere is the competition more fierce than in the mobile phone market.

So why are phones so important this year? The major reason is that they can do more than ever. There''s as much processing power in your pocket now as there was in most computers no more than a decade ago.

Now, none of this is new, mobile phones have had things like radios, MP3 players and cameras for a while now. The thing that''s really making the difference this year, however, is mobile internet.

Phone providers have been working on mobile internet for ages now, and it''s just about reached the stage where it can really handle the traffic produced by millions of smart phones operating the internet at the same time.

The result of this is that the phone in your pocket can do all the same things as before, as well as access the internet, and, more importantly, do all sorts of things with the internet that you''ve never been able to do before. This means that more and more people want phones that do everything, and as smart phones gain in popularity, more companies are trying to attract the new customers. One such company is Samsung, and with their latest offering, the Genio Touch White, they may just manage to break the power of the two established smart phone providers.

Of course, choosing between different types of smart phones is never easy, as they all seem to do everything. Samsung, however, have taken a look at what made phones successful back in the days before ''3G'' and incorporated it into their new designs. So whilst the Genio can do everything that you would expect from a phone in 2009, you also retain the ability to quite simply, change its colour, and you may be surprised at how attractive this is to customers.

We must not forget, however, that the success of a handset relies not just on the phone but on the provider and the deals they''re offering. If the Genio has the right deals with it, there''s a fair chance it could be a huge success this Christmas.
