Apple iPhones are completely reliant upon their touch screen interface, so if you drop it and the screen shatters, you will not be able to use the phone at all until you get it fixed.

While the iPhone is guaranteed for a year, you will only get free repairs if the fault was not caused by you. It can cost over 100GBP to get a cracked screen replaced by Apples official service department.

If you take your phone into the Genius Bar section of an Apple store, you may get it fixed for free, although this is something of a long shot, especially if the damage is major.

Third party service centres are often a little cheaper than the official Apple service department, and you might find that you can have your screen replaced for less than a hundred pounds if you shop around.

The cheapest way to get your screen fixed is to buy a replacement screen and fit it yourself, following a YouTube tutorial. However, this is also the riskiest option, and you could cause permanent damage to your phone if you are not careful.

A complete set of replacement parts for the iPhone costs around 150GBP, but if you just ...
... need to fit a new screen or touch panel, you can buy these individually for around 30 or 40GBP.

One strategy that might work is to buy the replacement screen or touch panel, and then go into the Apple store and make an emotional plea to have them fit it for you. This has a slightly better chance of success than just going in with your broken iPhone.

If you have ever fitted an upgrade to a home computer, such as memory or a graphics card, then you can probably fit a new screen to your iPhone, although due to the small size of the unit, it is a bit trickier.
