The IPC certification program is built on these standards and is the multi-tiered program in which the certification belongs to the person who has been certified. The master site license is held by the associated agency arm who is responsible for training people within a certain trading area. Master instructors who are employed by these associated agencies certify that trainers know the program material. They are trained over 3-5 days, depending on the program and must pass a series of tests and in some cases hands-on skills. The trainers then go back to their respective companies customizing the program for the needs of the company and their customer base. These trained associates, as well as the trainers, are certified for a 2 year period of time. The materials for the training are translated into many different languages and are updated every 2-3 years to reflect the ever-changing needs of electronics manufacturers.

There are a variety of ways in which the IPC certification courses in electronics can take place. In one case the training can take place on-site at the customer’s training facility. This is a function of whether or not the customer has a training location outfitted with all of the equipment. In another case, trainers are often sent to the certification centers for the extensive training which takes place in becoming a trainer. Training facilities have a lot of equipment which is not easy to transport and exposes the student to a variety of potentially new tools to be brought back to their respective shops. In addition, getting away from the home office keeps the new trainer focused on the task at hand. Another place where the IPC certification course in electronics training can take place is in a mobile training center. In this case, a fully outfitted mobile training center on wheels pulls up to the plant location for the training. This allows the equipment to come to the customer while still keeping the technicians focused on the training and not the latest plant emergency.
